Evoluzioni tecnologiche: iPod e Itunes al divorzio tecnologico?
Uno degli elementi che hanno prodotto il successo commerciale dell'Apple iPod è stato (oltre al fascino dell'oggetto tecnico) il collegamento diretto con iTunes, il negozio on-line più noto e conosciuto. In pratica, per poter ascoltare i brani comprati su iTunes non c'è alternativa, bisogna comprare l'iPod.
Il problema tecnico che ha mantenuto in piedi questo equilibrio è la speciale codifica della musica elaborata da Apple e conosciuta come "fair play" perette di riprodurre la musica solamente sugli iPod.
La novità che getta nuova luce su questo equilibrio, riportata da CNN.com è che uno giovane smanettone del computer Jon Lech Johansen ha decodificato la criptaizone della Apple, e soprattutto che intenderà metterla in commercio di qui a breve.
Ciò significa che tra poco tempo gli ascoltatori che comprano musica su iTunes potranno riprodurre la musica su qualsiasi lettore, o almeno sui lettori che adotteranno il sistema di decodifica di Jon Lech.
Quest'ultimo ha provveduto già non solo a farsi assicurare dai propri avvocati che non è reato decriptare la codifica di Apple, ma anche di fondare una apposita azienda, la DoubleTwist, che commericalizzera il prodotto.
Il giovane Jon - 22enne di origine norvegese ma residente a Silicon Valley - è un volto noto dell'ambiente delle decriptazioni. Egli è infatti meglio conoscito con il soprannome di "Jon DVD" essendo stato colui che anni fa decriptò il codice di protezione che impediva di duplicare i DVD contenenti film, sollevandosi così l'ira delle major discografiche nonché alcuni processi legali (conclusisi poi nel nulla).
La notizia è stata riportata con grande clamore anche da Repubblica on-line.
Questa novità non influisce sulle pratiche di file sharing - che sopratutto in Italia rappresentano la prima fontee di approvvigionamento di msuica digitale. Tuttavia, quantomeno nel medio termine, la decodifica del formato proprietario di Apple apre nuovi scenari. In particolare Apple non godrà più del vantaggio dell'"accalappiamento" (se vuoi usare iTunes ti appioppiamo anche l'iPod) prodotto dall'accoppiata "iTunes+iPod". Scienza: un paio di riflessioni sui Nobel 2006
Due chiacchiere sui nobel, il maggior premio internazionale per la scienza e la letteratura.
La prima riflessione è: come quasi sempre dominio americano. In più... dominio delle solite 5 o 6 università americane di punta:
Per la fisica il premio è diviso in due tra un fisico George F. Smoot dell'Università di Berkeley (PhD al MIT) e John C. Mather della Nasa (PhD a Berkeley).
Per la chimica: Roger D. Kornberg, un ricercatore di Stanford (MA a Harvard)
Per la medicina, Andrew Z. Fire di Stanford e Craig C. Mello dell'Università del Massachusset (PhD a Harvard).
Per l'economia il premio lo ha preso Phelps della Columbia University di NYC (PhD a Yale).
Discorsi a parte per la letteratura e per la pace toccati ripetitivamente allo scrittore turco Pamuk e a Muhammad Yunus, fondatore della Grameen Bank, l'istituzione che 25 anni addietro ha inventato il micro credito.
Non vorrei essere eccessivamente duro, ,a scrivere e fare del bene lo si fa nei paesi poveri, produce conoscenza invece è una cosa che si fa sempre negli stessi posti, ovvero in quelle 4 o 5 università americane: Stanford, Columbia, Yale, Berkeley, Harvard.

C'è veramente da brindare e apprezzare il buon occhio del collegio di Svezia.

Nuove tecnologie: ossigeno in bombolette spray in Giappone
Dal giugno scorso una grande catena internaizonale, 7eleven, ha iniziato a commercializzare bombolette spay che contengono ossigeno, ad un costo di 600 yen, ovvero circa 7 euro. L'ossigeno è disponibile al naturale oppure arotatizzato alla menta.
Per un verso la cosa non stupisce eccessivamente, giacchè in grandi città Giapponesi invase dall'inquinamento già da qualche anno sono disponibili dipenser di ossigeno a pagamento nelle strade simili alle cabine del telefono. resta il fatto che oramai anche respirare diventa un problema da risolvere individualemente nel contesto di mercato, comprando bombolette spray.
Sarà un eccezione, ma anche respirare e anche per le persone normali, quelle che camminano per stada per andare a lavorare o passeggiare, diventa un azione tecnologicamente mediata in un conesto commerciale. E va beh, oramai siamo pronti a vedere anche questo.

perfromance artists in the world, Ms. Anderson has consistently intrigued,
entertained and challenged audiences with her multimedia persentations.
Anderson's artistic career has cast her in roles as various as visual
artist, composer, poet, photographer, filmmaker, ventriloquist,
electronics whiz, vocalist and instrumentalist. Following her
presentation, Ms. Anderson will be joined in conversation by
neuroscientist Antonio Damasio, director of the USC Brain and Creativity
Institute and a leading researcher of cognition, emotions, and neural
systems.
This special presentation is part of the HASTAC In|Formation Year, devoted
to twelve months of public programming from a number of universities meant
to promote the human and humane dimenstions of technology and to encourage
conversation and exchange between humanists, artists, technologists, and
scientists (www.hastac.org).
Recognized worldwide as a leader in the groundbreaking use of technology
in the arts, Ms. Anderson has collaborated with Interval Research
Corporation, a research and development laboratory founded by Paul Allen
and David Liddle, in the exploration of new creative tools, including the
Talking Stick.
She received the 2001 Tenco Prize for Songwriting in San Remo, Italy and
the 2001 Deutsche Schallplatten Prize for Life on a String. Currently,
Ms. Anderson is touring a new solo work begun during her tenure as the
